D.     G1162 dehayis: a petition

1.     Occurrences: 2 Corinthians 1:11, 5:20, 8:4, 9:14; Philippians 1:4, 1:19; 2 Timothy 1:3; Hebrews 5:7; 1 Peter 3:12

2.     Petition is defined by Webster as: an earnest request; a formal written request made to an official person or an organized body.

3.     Asking God by request for something for yourself or someone else

E.      G2171 euche: properly a wish, expressed as a petition to God, or in votive obligation

1.     Occurrences: James 5:15

2.     Translated "vow" in Acts 8:18 and in Acts 21:23

F.      G2172 euchomai: to wish; by implication to pray to God

1.     Occurrences: 2 Corinthians 13:7; James 5:16

2.     Translated: would (to God), wished, wish [for instance 3 John 1:2-"Beloved I wish above all things that thou mayest proper and be in health even as thy soul prospereth"]

G.     G1783 enteuxis: an interview, that is specifically supplication

1.     Occurrences: 1 Timothy 4:5 and as intercession in 1 Timothy 2:1

2.     The aspect of "an interview" is similar to Jeremiah 23:18 which speaks of standing in the counsel of the Lord

IV.Supplication

A.      G1162 dehaysis: a petition.  Found as "supplication" in: Acts 1:14; Ephesians 6:18; Philippians 4:6; 1 Timothy 2:1; 1 Timothy 5:5.  Found as "prayers" in Hebrews 5:7

B.     G2428 hiketeria: approaching for a favor; intreaty

C.     Webster: to ask humbly and earnestly of; to make humble entreaty; to pray to God.

V.      Intercession

A.     G5241 huperentugchano: to intercede on behalf of.  Found in Romans 8:26.

B.     G1793 entugchano: to chance upon; to confer with; to entreat.  Found in Romans 8:27, 8:34, 11:2; 1 Timothy 2:1; Hebrews 7:25

C.     Intercede (Webster): to intervene between parties with a view to reconciling differences.  Etymology: to go.

1.     Standing in the gap
a.  Ezekiel 13:5  not gone up into the gaps
b.  Ezekiel 22:30  I sought for a man that would stand in the gap
D.    Intercession (Webster): prayer, petition or entreaty in favor of another.

VI.      In the Spirit

A.     A Function

1.     Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the spirit?Ephesians 6:18

2.     Jesus groaned in the spirit?John 11:33

3.     Paul said he would pray "with the spirit and with the understanding also"?1 Corinthians 14:15 (1 Corinthians 14:2?mysteries spoken in the spirit)

B.    A Location / Realm

1.     Revelation 1:10 "in the spirit on the Lord's Day"

2.     Revelation 4:2 "immediately I was in the spirit"

3.     Revelation 17:3 "So he carried me away in the spirit"

4.     Revelation 21:10 "And he carried me away in the spirit"

VII.       Groaning

A.    G1690 embrimaomai: to snort with anger; to have indignation on: to blame; to sigh with chagrin; to sternly enjoin.  John 11:33?Jesus

B.    G4726 stenagmos: a sigh.  Romans 8:27?the Holy Spirit

C.    G4727 stenazo: to make in straights; to sigh; to murmur; pray inaudibly.  Romans 8:23; 2 Corinthians 5:2, 5:4?Us

VIII.       Watching

A.    G70 agrupnia: sleeplessness; keeping awake.  2 Corinthians 6:5, 11:27

B.    G69 agrupneo: to be sleepless; keep awake.  Ephesians 6:18; Mark 13:33; Luke 21:36; Hebrews 13:17

C.    G1127 gregoreuo: to keep awake, that is to watch.  Matthew 24:42, 43, 25:13, 26:38, 40, 41; Mark 13:34, 35, 37, 14:34, 37, 38; Luke 12:37, 38, 39; 1 Corinthians 16:13; Colossians 4:2; 1 Thessalonians 5:6; Revelation 3:2, 3, 16:15

D.    G3525 nepho: to abstain from wine (keep sober); that is (figuratively) be discreet.  1 Peter 4:7
