Hearing's Relationship to Effective Prayer

I. Who Has the Ability to See and Hear
   A. Pro 20:12 The hearing ear and the seeing eye, the Lord hath made even both of them
   B. Joh 10:3-4 Anyone who is a true sheep hears and knows the voice of the true Shepherd!
   C. Who can see and hear?
      1. Mat 11:25 wisdom is hidden from the wise and prudent but revealed to babes (nepios: not speaking,
         simple minded, infant minor)
      2. Mat 18:1-5 a childlike heart can see and hear
          a. converted
          b. humble
          c. obedient
          d. sees and enters the Kingdom of God
          e. greatest in the Kingdom of God
II. The Secret of the Lord
   A. Psa 25:14 The secret of the Lord is with them that fear Him; and He will show them His covenant
      1. The fear of the Lord
          a. wisdom?Job 28:28
          b. clean?Psa 19:9
          c. no want?Psa 34:9
          d. God will teach it to you?Psa 34:11
          e. the beginning of wisdom?Psa 111:10
          f. the beginning of knowledge?Pro 1:7
          g. to hate evil, pride, arrogancy and the evil way?Pro 8:13
          h. prolongs days?Pro 10:27
           i. strong confidence?Pro 14:26
           j. a fountain of life?Pro 14:27
           k. the instruction of wisdom?Pro 15:33
           l. by it men depart from evil?Pro 16:6
          m. tends to life and satisfaction?Pro 19:23
           n. riches, honor and life?Pro 22:4
           o. quick understanding is in it?Isa 11:3
   B. Amo 3:7 Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but He revealeth His secret unto His servants the prophets
   C. Isa 50:4 He wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned
   D. His secret and ours
      1. Saying what you've seen
           a. say it or pray it?  Don't assume you are to say it.
           b. secret vs. secretive
      2. 2 Co 12:4 unspeakable words
           a. couldn't speak what he saw
           b. "no blabbermouth sits next to the throne"
III. Standing and Hearing
   A. Joh 3:29 The friend of the bridegroom stands and hears the bridegrooms voice
   B. Jer 23:18 For who hath stood in the counsel of the LORD, and hath perceived and heard his word?
   C. CONTRAST: Num 9:8 [Moses said unto them, (understood you) stand still, and I will hear what the Lord
       will command concerning you] ***old covenant= Moses (go between) hearing for the people vs. new
       covenant=people hearing for themselves because the veil has been torn and you have the Holy Spirit
IV. The Judgment of Not Seeing and Hearing
   A. Deu 29:4 Yet the LORD hath not given you an heart to perceive, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, unto
       this day.
   B. Num 14:23 Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them
       that provoked me see it:
   C. Isa 6:9 And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but
       perceive not.
   D. Joh 12:37-40 But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him: That
       the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report?
       and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?  Therefore they could not believe, because that
       Esaias said again, He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with
       their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.
   E. To the person who has already determined what they will see, it makes no difference what the Lord
       wants to show them
   F. To the person who has already determined what they will hear, it makes no difference what the Lord
       wants to tell them
V. Obedience and the Ability to See?John 9
    >The pool Jesus instructed the man to wash in was called "Sent"
    >The man "went" where he was "Sent"
    >The man followed the instructions of Jesus explicitly
    >The man, whom the Pharisees said was "born in sins" (vs. 34) once having encountered Jesus---
       1. became a worshipper  vs. 38
       2. became a teacher  vss. 30-34
       3. became an outcast  vs. 34
       4. became a discerner  vs. 17
       5. became a believer  vs. 38
